The Best Wellies (Wellington Boots)

January 20, 2016

I had a pair of wellies for years and years. So long in fact that the soles had worn down. Walking used to be an occasional leisurely activity. This increased substantially with the arrival of my daughter's Sprocker, Monty, because, although it is HER dog, I have been roped in! She is saying "You let me get him!" We do love him and walking is really good, both for health, to get out, spiritually and meeting people. It is amazing how you suddenly have something to say to people you'd never possibly normally talk to. Everyone it seems has a dog or dog story.

Having Monty for almost nine years means walking in all weather: rain, shine and even on occasion snow so needless to say that we've tried A LOT of different brands of wellies. After too many wet socks enough was enough - the hunt was on for the perfect pair and here is our run down of the ones we have tried:

Millets - a hole on the very first walk! Returned.
Joules - a hole within a couple of months. Returned.
High Street - cheap £10 pairs from Asda and the like - not bad, lasting longer than a year.
Hunter - a hole within a year of purchase.

The Winner.... Barbour! My daughter got the first pair, they were lasting well so I tried them after another wet sock. I liked the sole better than the Hunter, with a more solid feel, so my daughter bought me a pair for Christmas from an outlet store. Two years and still going strong. Well done Barbour!

A x
