It's Roald Dahl's birthday today and if he were still alive he would be 100.
It was through my daughter as she was growing up that I discovered Roald Dahl.
It is hard to pick a favourite quote but two I like are:
"Somewhere inside all of us is the power to change the world"
and
Happy Birthday Roald where ever you are - thank you for all the fantastic stories!

Going to the seaside reminded me of this watercolour I created when I wanted some blue on a wall at home.
The room that needed blue had been redecorated, with fresh paint on the walls, and I was really happy with the colour but some instinct was telling me that to finish the room off a blue painting was required. I decided to make the painting look like the sea all the while keeping the feel loose and abstract.
Unfortunately the picture disappeared in the last house move! Luckily I had taken a photograph of it which will help when it comes to painting it again.
I wonder if you have felt the need for a certain colour in a room and then gone searching for it - I hope you found what you were looking for.

I found my calligraphy fountain pen, filled it up with ink and after a bit of practise, without too much ink being spilt, here is a FRIYAY ... have a great weekend!
September. Where did August go?!
Did you go away... by car, by plane, by boat? Stay in a hotel, a villa, a lodge, a tent, a hut, a cabin, a caravan or motorhome... the options and choices are endless these days.
We opted for a staycation this August. If England is going to have a summer surely it would be in August. And very relaxing it has been: reading, being creative, visiting places, cooking, gardening ... just doing what we felt like when the mood took us. How people say they get bored is beyond me; the month has flown by and I could really do with another.
But for all who have been away and are back...

...you've only missed two episodes of Bake Off ... ;)
A Friyay in watercolours that continues with the sunflower theme as it has been another hot and sunny day - hurrah!
Have a fantastic Bank Holiday Weekend!
August has been full of sunshine making me think of sunflowers so I pulled out the watercolours and had a go at painting one.
In Greek mythology I think it was Clytie who passionately loved Helios. She would stand on the earth watching him move across the sky. Her love was unrequited and standing for so long with her eyes fixed upon him, not eating or drinking, meant she eventually became rooted to the spot turning into a sunflower.
And that is why a sunflower's head always points towards the sun! I love Greek myths!

As the last few daffodils bloom Monty has been busy picking!

I'm now trying to create a vegetable patch, the trick will be keeping his muddy paws off it as he has a taste for veg and herbs... he once ate an entire thyme plant!

For every muddy puddle, rainy walk and dewy grass there is always the same outcome. It doesn't matter if Monty's been towelled dry or not, as soon as he gets inside... he shakes! Water and mud sprays everywhere as the long ears flick backwards and forwards. That done it is off to bed for a good lick clean, then curl up and fall asleep, leaving us to pick up a cloth and clean up.
Happy Easter! Hope you're having a wonderful day with your loved ones eating a tonne of chocolate and chilling out. A and I are currently having a bit of a movie marathon and on Friday we headed out to enjoy the Kent countryside (post on Tuesday!)

To celebrate my love of mini eggs I created the above illustration, it's sad to think another year of eating them is over... but I can't wait for the warmer weather.
A's Highlight of the week: Wandering around the Kent countryside in the sun on Friday.
L's Highlight of the week: Same as A!
Enjoy the rest of the Bank Holiday!

Scrolling through Pinterest it's impossible not to notice trends and yesterday I couldn't help but notice the abundance of white wedding flowers. To me this seems like such a shame, they blend in with wedding dresses rather than adding a splash of colour. After searching around I found that tropical wedding bouquets are filled with bright vivid flowers, adding a sense of joy and fun to the brides procession. So here's my illustration of a tropical wedding bouquet in beautiful yellows and pinks.
Weirdly one of my favourite words of the 21st Century is Friyay, thank you Instagram. I guess it's a combination of two of my favourite things, Friday and the word "yay", plus who doesn't love a good pun? So in tribute to my love of this Instgram trend I'm going to be posting a different design of the word each... Friday.
Here are two I've already created that went up on our Instagram, follow us there to see what we're working on and some cheeky extras too.
